We all have our opinions but that is not important. You need to create such a "noise" that it is impossible to ignore you! You must not break the law or damage anything. But if you can create enough of a "noise" you will get results. How can you accomplish that? It would be nice to get 50,000 York students demonstrating at Queen's Park day after day making it difficult for politicians to get to work. But that is totally unrealistic to expect students to get to downtown Toronto day after day. Ah, but there is a much simpler technological solution to create a demonstration. It is called e-mail. The 'York Not Hostage" site http://www.yorknothostage.com/ asks people to write a letter to the Premier. You are being much too nice! Imagine the following scenario. Every day the strike lasts all the politicians at Queen's Park and the Mayor get swamped with 20,000 - 50,000 e-mails. You need to start a campaign that makes them aware of the problem so that they do something. IF every student sent one e-mail each day and you simply changed one piece [the length of the strike in days] now you are making some "noise". And if you can get your parents to do the same thing [or maybe you do it on their behalf] the noise gets even louder [especially if they indicate that they will vote against the politician/the political party unless some action is taken]. The key is a simple to edit e-mail that is sent by thousands of people day after day as part of your regular morning or evening routine. Eventually the "noise" will get heard. Imagine thousands of these e-mails arriving every day in the politicians in basket. And it would be very easy for you do to. Each morning you just change the "number of days" digits and send the message to a distribution list. Takes 2 minutes but creates "noise". I am sure that some of you can think of other folks to get this message. Perhaps media outlets [but you need to change the part about next election]. Anyway that is my idea. If you think my suggestion might be of some use then post something on the Discussion board. Feel free to send this message to other boards, fellow students and to the "York Not Hostage" site. You will need someone to Google the e-mail addresses of all the politicians, but that should not take too long. That information would be posted for all to use. I am asking you to pass back-to-work legislation as soon as possible to end this strike. Your assistance in this matter will be viewed most positively during the next election. Imagine if all students had 3 accounts and you sent 3 messages a day to the politicians. The "noise" gets even louder! The "noise" should probably also extend to the Mayor of Toronto. Understand that he has nothing to do with the issue, but York U is in Toronto and 50,000 of the residents of Toronto are having a problem. He should know about it and help put pressure on the other politicians. I swear I have a life, I just thought this was more important.
