| LIBERALS MUST COMPENSATE YORK UNIVERSITY STUDENTS PC Critic Jim Wilson Says Government Should Support Students Hit Hard By Strike
(Queen's Park) Progressive Conservative critic for Training, Colleges and Universities Jim Wilson (Simcoe-Grey) called upon Premier Dalton McGuinty today to help students hit hard by the strike at York University.

"Because of your inaction, 45,000 students are facing an extra month of rent and living expenses, less income from summer jobs and a whole month of lost classroom time," Wilson told the Premier during Question Period.
Wilson was critical of Mr. McGuinty's response which was a repeat of his pledge to allow students to access more student loans through OSAP.
"That's just a promise for more student debt," he said. "That's just not good enough. Students don't deserve to have more debt and more interest charges because you chose to ignore their plight for 12 weeks."
Due to the prolonged strike which will see the school year extend likely until June, Wilson figured that students could be on the hook for at least $1,400 through lost summer earnings if they worked full-time for four weeks at minimum wage.
Wilson said if the Premier refuses to budge on more assistance for students he should at least make any additional OSAP loans that students have to take interest free.
